Acid Labs has raised $8 million in funding for its instantly playable Web3 games on social messaging platforms.

The company’s mission is to build viral instant games where people already connect. The studio already has a breakout hit in Boinkers.io, which has 11.5 million monthly players on Telegram. The company says that shows the massive potential of chat-integrated gaming.

A16z Speedrun and NFX led the round, with participation from Fusion VC, and top gaming executives. Jonn Weinberg is the CEO of Acid Labs. He is a serial entrepreneur focused on gaming. Over the last decade he founded and led multiple companies that raked millions in revenues and entertained millions of gamers worldwide, the company said.

With more games on the way, Acid Labs is doubling down on creating seamless, social-first gaming experiences. The flagship game, Boinkers.io, is a social parody game on Telegram—packed with meme culture, absurd humor, and chaotic fun, the company said.

I’m not sure what the game is all about, but it took me a while to find a “safe for work” image that wasn’t super silly while scrolling through the company’s Twitter feed for the game. The game courts low-brow humor and it has a lot of meme social posts. Boinkers is a casual tap-to-earn Telegram game.

Boinkers.io is a popular game from Acid Labs.

“Chat-based games are set to dominate global playtime. We’re thrilled to be backed by the best in the industry. A16z speedrun backs founders pushing the limits of tech and entertainment, and NFX is behind some of the most successful gaming companies in the world,” said Acid Labs in a statement.

Josh Lu, partner at a16z Games, said in a statement, “Chat super apps have some of the strongest network effects in all of tech and a natural fit for game experiences designed to be played with friends. Acid Labs has tapped into a massive market where people already connect, creating viral loops that fuel organic growth.”

NFX shares this vision. Gigi Levy-Weiss, general partner at NFX, said in a statement, “Winning in gaming takes more than just great ideas—it requires a team that can execute with speed and precision. Acid Labs has already built one of the fastest-growing social gaming hits, proving they have the vision and expertise to shape what comes next.”

The company is led by a proven team of serial entrepreneurs whose first venture delivered over $250 million in revenue, with their previous company acquired in 2021.
