Mysten Labs‘ Parasol and Jokers will bring the Sega-licensed Code of Joker: Evolutions game to Web3 players.
Parasol is an end-to-end platform enabling game developers to seamlessly integrate blockchain infrastructure into their games. It’s a subsidiary of Mysten Labs, and the companies involved have announced that the Sega-licensed game Jokers Inc. is coming to the Sui blockchain.
Code of Joker: Evolutions is the newest release in the Code of Joker series, a popular digital trading card game released by Sega in 2013. Now powered by Sui, Code of Joker: Evolutions is bringing its digital trading cards onchain showcasing the series’ IP along with forthcoming collaborations to be announced.
“From our first conversation on what a digital experience of Code of Joker: Evolutions would look like, we knew that we wanted to match the physical feeling of opening a new card pack,” said Takashi “Gin” Mizouka, cofounder of Jokers Inc., in a statement. “Sui was the only blockchain that could make this vision a reality, and we are thrilled to be working alongside the Parasol team on the first of many collaborations. Jokers has already secured multiple licensing agreements with major Japanese character IPs, and we’re excited to bring them onto Sui, further expanding the Web3 gaming landscape.”
Players will be able to prove digital ownership, trade and showcase their collections thanks to Sui’s underlying infrastructure. Code of Joker: Evolutions will be released on iOS, Android and Web at the end of summer of 2025.
“When we met the Parasol team a year ago, it quickly became clear that they shared our belief that gaming will be at the forefront of web3 transformation, and that gamers will be among the first to adopt the decentralized economy,” said Evan Cheng, CEO of Mysten Labs, in a statement. “With its wide span of Sega IPs, Code of Jokers: Evolutions is the perfect first collaboration between classic gaming IP and blockchain-powered gaming.”
“Our work with Code of Joker: Evolutions is a labor of love from a team that grew up on classic Japanese gaming,” said Kai Chen, CEO of Parasol, in a statement. “Sui is the only blockchain capable of providing the technical support our gaming partners are looking for, and we’re very grateful for Jokers’ Inc. and Sega’s support in our flagship endeavor. There’s much more to come.”
The Sui ecosystem’s commitment to games leveraging blockchain technology has grown exponentially since the mainnet launch of Sui, demonstrated through support of a wide variety of games, from independent games such as Xociety to Mysten Labs’ development of the forthcoming SuiPlay0X1, the first hardware device capable of playing Web2 and Web3-powered games, in partnership with Playtron OS.
Parasol is a team of Japanese and American gaming experts with decades of experience in inventing, building, and shipping category-defining gaming hardware and software. Parasol is an end-to-end platform enabling game developers to seamlessly integrate blockchain infrastructure into their games. Parasol was acquired by Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui in 2024.
Jokers Inc. is led by former Sega producers Yasuhiro Nishiyama, who produced titles such as Sangokushi Taisen and Code of Joker; and Wataru Sato, who produced Bakugan, an action card game integrating physical toys and TCG elements. Together, they aim to create new value in the digital card game industry.
Developed by Sega, Code of Joker is a strategy-based digital trading card game released as an arcade game on July 11, 2013. Over six years, the game was enjoyed by players across more than 650 amusement facilities nationwide, with over 2,760 satellite units in operation.
